I’ve been asked why do I travel so much? The short answer is “Because it’s fun.”
But you know there is more to it than that.
Growing up, my family was not one that traveled often. My parents took us on day trips to see local sites such as state parks or tourist places. We also had the occasional hotel stays for some of the historical places my parents wanted to see. They even spend some of their limited time off to help run a week of summer camp for a few years with some friends. We did do the “Once in a Lifetime” trip to Disney World with our cousins as a Christmas gift from my grandparents. But I didn’t start traveling until after I got married.
My husband, on the other hand, has many found memories of camping trips or road trips with his family. He loves to explore new places! Each new place he explores makes him add even more places to his wish list to explore.
After many years of compromise, he has shown me that you grow just a little with each trip you take. We are now enjoying every minute of exploring the world. The more I travel, the more I learn. Sometimes, it’s new foods I’ve tried. Sometimes, it’s a piece of history. But almost every trip, it has something to do with the amazing culture and people. I only wish that I had started traveling with my kids earlier – as hands on learning experiences are the best teaching tool.
